obit ethel simmonscroppedEthel May Simmons, 83, passed away Jan. 29 in Albuquerque. She was born in Pacoima, Calif., on Sept. 10, 1932, to the late John and Gertrude (Murphy) Wagner. Ethel was a kind soul and will be deeply missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Maxwell Simmons; daughter, Donna Jean Bowers and sister, Marian Gieslan. Ethel is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Thomas Cardenas of Hobbs, and Nancy and Carl Leishman of Albuquerque; sons and daughter-in-law, Terry and Ayuko Simmons of Tijeras, and Kenneth Simmons of Mountainair; grandchildren, Lisa Grimes, Linda Black, Yamato Simmons, Kodama Simmons, Chad Bowers, Jason Simmons, Chris Simmons, David Simmons, Eric Simmons, Vanessa Simmons, Jacob Simmons and Sean Grace; and 21 great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held Feb. 4 at the Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Mountainair at 10 a.m. with a service to follow at 11 a.m. Interment will be at the Mountainair Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Carl Leishman, Ken Simmons, Terry Simmons, Davey Simmons, Christopher Simmons and Haral Bowers.
