Frank M. Sandoval Jr., 79, passed away on November 7, 2016. He was born on February 9, 1937 in Galisteo, to the late Frank Sr. and Lucia (Mora) Sandoval. On May 17, 1958 he married his wife Doris Baca. Frank was a lifetime resident of New Mexico and a member of the St. Joseph Society in Galisteo. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Bennie Sandoval, Fidel Sandoval and Anastacio Sandoval. Frank is survived by his wife, Doris Sandoval of Stanley; sons, Ernie Sandoval and Alexandra, of Stanley, Leroy Sandoval of Santa Fe, and Jerome Sandoval and Nadine, of Deming; daughter, Mary Louise Arellano and Luis of Stanley; brothers, Rudy Sandoval, George Sandoval, Joe Sandoval and Fred Sandoval; sisters, Connie Valencia, Pilar Anaya, Joanne Rodgers, Gloria Durham, Mary Lou Baca and Stella Maestas; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held Nov. 12; the Rosary and Celebration of Mass were held at Nuestra Señora De Las Remedios Catholic Church in Galisteo, with Father Bryant officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Rudy Sandoval, Joe Sandoval, Danny Sandoval, Thomas Sandoval, Benjamin Anaya, Nick Anaya, Chris Chavez, Pedro Sandoval, Mateo Sandoval, Jerome Sandoval Jr., Nicholas Arellano, Melanie Sandoval, Melissa Sandoval, Camille Sandoval, Ashley Osuna, Amber Sandoval, Aubrey Sandoval, Gabriella Arellano and Andrea Arellano.
Leota started working for The Independent in 2006, working her way up through the ranks. An employee buyout in 2010 led to her ownership of the newspaper. Leota has served on the board of the N.M.
