Allen Leroy Rhoades, age 67, of Mountainair passed away Oct. 13 in Hobbs, surrounded by his family. He was born Feb. 11, 1948, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to the late Jimmie and Betty (Andrews) Rhoades. Allen was a longtime resident of Mountainair and was a member of the United Pentecostal Church of Belen. He is survived by his brothers and sister-in-law, Don and Linda Rhoades of Harker Heights, Texas, Ray Rhoades of Oklahoma City, and Norman Rhoades of Las Cruces; sisters and brother-in-law, Shirley Davis of Hobbs, Thelma Rhoades of Rio Rancho, and Nancy and Remi Khu of Kansas City, Kans. Allen was also blessed with numerous nieces and nephews and one great-niece. A visitation was held Oct. 15 at Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Mountainair. The graveside service was at the Mountainair Cemetery, with Pastor Jose Lovato officiating. Pallbearers were Rick Murdoch, Rick Treager, Evan Ritchey, Jesse Quinlan, Wesley Wells and Vincent Amendolagine. Arrangements were entrusted to Harris-Hanlon Mortuary.
Leota started working for The Independent in 2006, working her way up through the ranks. An employee buyout in 2010 led to her ownership of the newspaper. Leota has served on the board of the N.M.
