For over 20 years the Manzano Mountain Art Council (MMAC) has sponsored Mountainair’s Annual Sunflower Festival.
This year the Art Council will collaborate with the town of Mountainair for festivities starting on Aug. 24.
From 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 24, an art opening will be held for the 23 Years of Enchantment show at the MMAC Center, located on the NE corner of HWY60 and HWY55. This event will feature local artists, live jazz by Lopez/Aster/Hays, and beer and wine from T or C Brewing and Jarales Winery. All donations will benefit the MMAC Building Fund.
On August 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Dr. Saul Center and MMAC Center in downtown Mountainair, more than 75 vendors will be selling art, crafts and food. Music will be performed by New Mexican favorites the Kevin Michael Band and Kyle Martin.
The Sunflower Hat Contest is open to all ages.
There is a raffle of art donated by local artisans, and children will have a chance
to create their own pieces at the Children’s Art Table.
The event is “fun for the entire family! Arts – crafts – food – sunflower hats!” said J.C. Brown.
“The New Mexico Chapter of the Foundation for a Drug-Free World is excited to participate in this event!” P. Allread said.
