In February of this year, Bobby Joe and Amanda Worthington decided to open a plumbing business in Tijeras. Bobby Joe Worthington said after working as a plumber for 26 years, his wife suggested they open their own business.

Amanda Worthington spent many years working in an insurance office and was able to use her expertise running an office to take care of the office side of the business, while her husband works in the field. The couple is currently operating from their home in Tijeras and have future plans to buy a piece of property and a building, in Tijeras, for a traditional office space and to have space to store equipment.

“Big box companies are just outrageous with their prices. We want to keep it small and fair,” Bobby Joe Worthington said.

He said they are working with a marketing company in the hopes to grow the business a little bit but they plan to keep the operation small and local.

He said he and his wife live in the East Mountains and they want to be “a dependable and affordable plumber to the community and want to give back to the community a little bit.”

The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and they do accept calls after hours for emergency services. Any person who has an emergency can call the office at 505-397-2361 and someone is always available to answer the phone.

The price range is anywhere from $165 for simple jobs, while more complicated jobs, or jobs that require heavy equipment, can cost an upwards of $1,550.

East Mountain Plumbing and Heating offers new construction for residential and commercial buildings. They do any kind of “service work” including: replacing water heaters, faucets, toilets, sinks, garbage disposals, showers, clear drains, repair sewer lines, gas lines, as well as remodeling or improving bathrooms.

They are willing to work with people and offer military and senior discounts. The business is currently online only on Facebook with plans to build a website in the near future.
