East Mountain Roofing announced a free roof giveaway in February. People were encouraged to nominate someone in need.

Submissions went up online in March and included a picture and a story. The nominees were voted for after the submissions were all received.

On April 7, East Mountain Roofing announced a winner: Kevin Ridenour.

Ridenour was nominated by Valerie Chowning, an owner of RV Sales in Moriarty. Chowning received a $20 gift card to Pizza Barn, since her nominee got the vote.

“We were originally planning to ask the community to donate some gift cards [to give them to other people who nominated others]. We decided we wanted to support other businesses and people during COVID-19 outbreak. Instead we bought gift cards,” said organizer Samantha Aumack.

East Mountain Roofing bought gift cards from Pizza Barn, Old Mill Farm and Ranch Supply and Chili Hills all in Edgewood.

The other two gift cards were given away through a Facebook prompt, asking people to interact with the page.

Haylee Alexandra in Albuquerque won the other gift cards. “We wanted to say thank you to the voters for spreading the word and helping local businesses as well,” she said.

Aumack said the EM Roofing wanted to find a way to support the community and possibly bring new people to the area to shop. She said, “Maybe she will enjoy her experience out here at a place like Chili Hills and tell people about it. Word of mouth advertising always has good results.”

East Mountain Roofing’s owner Daniel Kniffin said in a Facebook live video, that he would like to help other nominees with commercial roofing repairs and plans to help others in the community who need it.

Aumack said, “We figured it was time to start giving back to the community and we are really embracing being a part of the community.”
