Mutechy was opened in Edgewood, mid-March of this year, by father and son team Lawrence and Nico Estrada.
Lawrence Estrada said his son already established a mobile business and it grew during Covid, so they decided to move into a brick and mortar style business model.
Lawrence Estrada does the business side and his son handles the Information Technology (IT) side. Nico Estrada went to school for IT and Computer Programming and Lawrence Estrada used repair personal computers for the Department of Energy. He currently works as an engineer for Intel, and has for the past 30 years.
Mutechy is a combination of IT services and a gaming room.
They service all types of electronics, computers and gaming systems, including modern and retro video gaming consoles. They also refurbish computers and laptops.
In addition, they do data recovery, three-dimensional printing, picture retrieval, custom gaming computer building, and tune-ups. They can also help with some cell phone technical issues. They do “pretty much anything on a Windows operating system,” but don’t do much with Macs. The price range of IT services varies dependent on the scope of the project and what is actually needed, and can cost anywhere from $60 to $150 for repairs, while building custom computers can cost anywhere from $150 on up.
The gaming room features Virtual Reality, a digital pinball machine, a race car driving simulator and computer games.
Wutechy will download a game if they don’t have the one a person is looking for, and also offers a small variety of drinks and snacks and a table for traditional board games. People are welcome to bring their own, for $5 per day and use the space as all the games at Mutechy are digital.
Gaming is $6 an hour and kids 14 and under must be attended by an adult; or gamers can buy a day pass for $25 and have full access for an entire day. Additionally, gamers can pay a monthly rate of $45. Customers can also expect to meet the “shop dog,” a big black sweetie named Tesla.
“We are just a gaming shop run by a couple of gamers!” Nico Estrada said.
Mutechy is open Tuesday through Sunday from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. They are closed Mondays. For more information visit mutechy.com, find them on Facebook or call 505-999-9147.
