D’Nese Renee Vowell, 40, passed away Sept. 7. She was born Aug. 28, 1975, in Clovis. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. D’Nese was preceded in death by her father, Darrel Wayne Vowell; grandfather, Paul Arthur Tyhurst and aunt and uncle, Vickie and Rex Foss. She is survived by her son, Jacob Vowell-Ferguson of Texarkana, Ark.; mother and stepfather, Renee and Gary Jackson of Albuquerque; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ami and J.B. Bratcher of Carlsbad, and Rachel and Jonah Roybal of Fort Collins, Colo.; brothers, Mark Tyhurst of Albuquerque, and Paul A. Tyhurst of Salt Lake City, Utah; grandmother, Rachel Tyhurst; nephews, Dustin Bratcher, Preston Bratcher, Ilan Roybal and Zeia Roybal; aunt and uncles, Stephen Tyhurst and Stephanie and Jim Cannaday, as well as numerous cousins. Graveside services will be held Sept. 9 at the Mountainview Cemetery in Moriarty. Pastors Gary Jackson and Basil Williams are to officiate. Arrangements were entrusted to Harris-Hanlon Mortuary.
Leota started working for The Independent in 2006, working her way up through the ranks. An employee buyout in 2010 led to her ownership of the newspaper. Leota has served on the board of the N.M. Press Association, and is currently its First Vice President. She is passionate about health and wellness, especially mental health, and loves making art.
