Sandia Park resident Andrew Erickson’s fourth-quarter touchdown lifted the top-ranked Manzano High School football team to its first-ever state title with a 14-7 victory over the No. 2 La Cueva Bears Saturday at Albuquerque’s Wilson Stadium.

Erickson’s 48-yard end-around sweep with under five minutes remaining in the game broke a 7-7 tie to capture the crown and close out the Monarchs’ first-ever undefeated season.
