The first annual Mountainair FFA Ranch Rodeo was held Sept. 26 in Mountainair. Ten ranch teams competed in five events to claim cash and prizes. The El Ranchito team, comprised of five Torrance County cowboys—Cody Vega, Daniel Hernandez, Olavio Hernandez, Dusty Vega and Bryson Wright—claimed first in the average. El Ranchito’s team won Team Branding, Steer Tie Down and Trailer Loading events while Lucy Ranch/3 C Cattle Co. won the Wild Cow Milking and the Team Penning. Shown here, Double Diamond Ranch’s Jason Brumley, Hendrick Neethlong, Josh Howley and Paul Gutierrez (on the horse) competing in the wild cow milking. Matt Connell of Gran Quivera was selected as Top Hand for the event. Photo by Julie Carter.
