1931 – 2015
Florian Luna Sr., 83, of Punta de Agua, passed away July 31 at his home on the Luna Ranch with his family at his side. He was born on Oct. 5, 1931, in Punta de Agua, to Frank Luna Sr. and Rita Jaramillo Luna. Along with working the ranch and farm he worked in maintenance, mainly landscaping, at the Mountainair electric co-op, and retired after 32 years. He married Christina Equibel 50-plus years ago in Belen. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict and was awarded three Bronze Stars. He was a very hard-working man and never asked for much, and was very devoted to his family. Florian was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Christina; his sons, Phillip Luna, Michael Luna, Florian Luna Jr. and Herman Luna; his daughter, Nadine Luna; brothers, Frank Luna and wife Tillie, and Dimas Luna and wife Bangie; sisters Trinnie Otero and husband Claude, Rita Luna-Casias and husband Johnnie Jr., Alma Griego and husband Eloy, Oralia Garcia and husband Tony and Odelia Chavez and husband Larry. Also, according to his family, a lot of grandchildren and too many great-grandchildren to count. Graveside services were held Aug. 3 at the Luna Ranch Cemetery with Military Honors. Pallbearers were his immediate family and grandchildren. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Aug. 5 at Punta de Agua Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Arrangements were entrusted to Harris-Hanlon Mortuary.
