Helen Lucero Maestas, 90, passed away Jan. 18 in Albuquerque. She was born on March 6, 1927 in La Cienega, to the late Isidro and Maria (Torres) Lucero. She was a lifetime resident of La Cienega and a lifetime member of the St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Punta de Agua. Helen was a caretaker for many years of the La Cienega Catholic Cemetery. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and community. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, David B. Maestas and sister, Senaida Lucero. Helen is survived by her great-nephew, Stephen F. Torres and Rhoda Lajeunesse of the home; godson, Stephen J. Torres of La Cienega; niece, Glenda Torres and husband Joe of Mountainair, and sister-in-law, Josephine Purcella of Albuquerque, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral will be held at St. Alice Catholic Church in Mountainair. A viewing was held Jan. 23, with the Rosary recited. A Celebration of Mass will be on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 11 a.m. Father Bob Peccatiello will officiate. Pallbearers will be Raymond Maestas, Martin Purcella Jr., Chad Ross, Raymond (Mono) Torres, Delfinio Roybal and Danny Maestas. Interment will be at La Cienega Cemetery.
