Lana Marie Lemieux, 78, passed away Nov. 15 in Albuquerque. She was born Oct. 22, 1938, in Pittsburg, New Hampshire, to the late Chester and Ruth (Flanders) Robie. Lana loved to sew, quilt and put together puzzles. She loved curling up with a good book and was an animal lover, especially to her two cats Muffin and Monkey. Lana had lived here for over 10 years and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Edgewood. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond Lemieux; daughter, Paula Meadows and granddaughter, Aimee Meadows. Lana is survived by her sons, Michael and Robin Lemieux of Bellevue, Neb., Bruce and Diana Lemieux of Roy, Utah, and Gregroy and Ann Lemieux of Sandy, Utah; daughters, Theresa and Gerald Lapsley of Edgewood, Jeanne Lemieux of Bunker Hill, Ind. and Linda Lemieux of Utah; 21 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Leota started working for The Independent in 2006, working her way up through the ranks. An employee buyout in 2010 led to her ownership of the newspaper. Leota has served on the board of the N.M. Press Association, and is currently its First Vice President. She is passionate about health and wellness, especially mental health, and loves making art. She can be reached at [email protected]
