Linda Joan Bowman Stanfield, 68, of Edgewood, passed away Oct. 4. She was born Jan. 7, 1947, in Mansfield, Ohio. Linda was a very active member of the Bethel United Methodist Church of Moriarty. She was also a Kappa Phi member of the Wesleyan Foundation. Linda was a bookkeeper and receptionist for Hannah Plumbing for 25 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Gwen (Hollar) Bowman and brother-in-law, Murphy Watson. She is survived by her husband, David Stanfield of Edgewood; son and daughter-in-law, Josh and Cara Stanfield of Seattle, Wash.; brother, Ricky Don Bowman and sisters, Janet Lou Bowman Bowling, Sharon Sue Bowman Hoeflich, Vicky Lynn Bowman Watson and Christine Jill Bowman Wright. A funeral service was held Oct. 11 at Bethel United Methodist Church in Moriarty, with Pastor Janet Norden officiating. Interment followed at the Mountain Valley Cemetery in Edgewood. Pallbearers were Dan Helfer, Brad Ross, Richard Keech, Harlen Lawson, Eric Witzke, Paul Hanna and Larry Pfaff. Honorary Pallbearers are Nick Bowman, Jeff Wright and Thomas Hunt. Arrangements were entrusted to Harris-Hanlon Mortuary.
Leota started working for The Independent in 2006, working her way up through the ranks. An employee buyout in 2010 led to her ownership of the newspaper. Leota has served on the board of the N.M. Press Association, and is currently its First Vice President. She is passionate about health and wellness, especially mental health, and loves making art.
