A man was shot to death in Tijeras Sept. 8 after breaking into a residence, according to a press release from the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s office.

“Detectives responded to the scene,” the press release says. “The investigation revealed a 48-year old male had been shot and killed after breaking into a residence and attacking one of the homeowners with a bamboo stick and hockey stick. The homeowner, a 70-year old male, received a significant head injury and was in fear for his life. The homeowner was able to obtain a .38 caliber handgun and shot the intruder once in the chest. The intruder dies instantly at the scene.”

No arrests were made in the case, the release says. The District Attorney’s office “for a decision on prosecution or a conclusion of justifiable homicide,” the release says.
