Rafael Zamora, 49, passed away July 20 in Albuquerque. He was born in Clovis on April 24, 1966, to the late Luis and Corina (Turritta) Zamora. Rafael was a retired farmer who lived in New Mexico his whole life and was a devout Christian. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and community. Rafael was preceded in death by his infant brother, Juan B. Zamora. He is survived by his daughter, Juanita T. Zamora; brothers, Richard Zamora of Albuquerque, Pete Zamora of Willard and Gene Zamora of Clovis; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Ann and George Ramirez of Manzano, Anna Zamora and Joe Lajuenesse of Willard, Lydia Zamora of Clovis, Toni Zamora and David Aragon of Torreon, and Melissa Zamora and Raymond Garcia of Estancia, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A Rosary will be recited at Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Mountainair, July 29 at 10 a.m., with a Celebration of Mass at 11 a.m. Arrangements were entrusted to Harris-Hanlon Mortuary.
Leota started working for The Independent in 2006, working her way up through the ranks. An employee buyout in 2010 led to her ownership of the newspaper. Leota has served on the board of the N.M.
