Estancia’s Adam Lujan scored four touchdowns as the Bears rolled to a 50-0 rout last Friday at Laguna-Acoma. The Bears finished the regular season undefeated for the first time since 1978 earning the top seed and a first-round bye in the Class 3A playoffs.
After finishing its football season with an 8-2 record, Moriarty received the No. 4 seed and a first-round bye in the Class 5A state playoffs, its highest seeding since 2006.
Manzano’s Marcus Gutierrez, a Sandia Park resident, scored a 5-yard touchdown in the first-quarter of last Thursday’s 21-0 victory over La Cueva. The Monarchs finished with a 6-4 record and received the No. 8 seed in the Class 6A state playoffs. They’ll host the No. 9 Sandia Matadors Friday at Wilson Stadium.
Three area high schools made it to the state volleyball tournament that kicks off Thursday: Mountainair received the No. 5 seed in Class 2A; Moriarty the No. 9 seed in Class 5A; and Estancia No. 11 in Class 3A.
