Moriarty High baseball took second place at last weekend’s Artesia Invitational Tournament, beating Lovington 7-1 in the opening round, and edging host Artesia 5-4 the next day, before falling 9-0 in Saturday’s finale to Class 6A Carlsbad.

The Pintos play at Los Alamos Thursday.

Moriarty softball took second place at last weekend’s St. Michael’s Tournament in Santa Fe. The Lady Pintos beat Española Valley 14-3 in Thursday’s opening round, followed by a 1-0 win the next day over Pojoaque Valley, before falling 3-1 to the host Lady Horsemen in the tournament finale. Moriarty hosted Belen Tuesday after The Independent went to print.

Estancia softball used a 9-run first inning surge to beat Santa Rosa 16-9 last Saturday, the day after losing 7-2 to Raton at the Pecos Softball Tournament.

East Mountain softball beat McCurdy 12-5 last Saturday at the Pecos Tournament. The Lady T’Wolves beat Tucumcari 10-9 after losing 4-2 to Raton in the opening round.

East Mountain hosted Bloomfield Tuesday after The Independent went to print.
