Manzano High’s baseball team swept both ends of last Saturday’s home district doubleheader against Highland 7-2, and 2-0. The Monarchs play at district-rival La Cueva today.

East Mountain runners Aubri Wrye and Isiah Padilla both claimed new state-qualifying times by winning the 400-meter and the 800-meter races, respectively, at last week’s Golden Spike Classic in Santa Fe.

East Mountain senior Aidan Aragon was named District 4-4A boys basketball Offensive Player of the Year on top of making the All-District team. “That’s a pretty incredible honor for Aidan,” the team’s head coach Joe Vigil said.

East Mountain’s softball squad lost 15-0 Monday at Hope Christian in Albuquerque. The loss came on the heels of last Thursday’s district doubleheader defeat at Portales, 14-0 and 11-2.

East Mountain’s home district baseball game last Friday against Portales got rained out. The Timberwolves played last night at district-rival NMMI in Roswell after The Independent went to print.

Moriarty baseball lost last Thursday at Hope Christian 6-2, the day after beating Robertson, 11-1.

Both Moriarty’s baseball and softball squads opened district play against St. Pius X Tuesday after The Independent went to print.
