High school football got underway last week: the reigning Class 3A state champion Estancia Bears got past Class 5A Lovington 32-27 on the road.

Moriarty kicked off its season with a 37-10 loss at Gallup’s Miyamura.

Manzano lost 53-0 to host Cleveland High. Jaydon Chavez-Silver, a Manzano student who was killed in June, was honored during a pre-game ceremony. Chavez-Silver was a member of the Monarch football team and would have been a senior.

Mountainair football lost at Magdalena, 40-0.

Moriarty boys soccer got blanked last Saturday at Capital, 6-0.

East Mountain girls soccer picked up a pair of 1-0 victories at last weekend’s Taos Tournament, beating Bernalillo on Saturday, the day after edging Silver in the tournament opener. The Lady T’Wolves fell 2-1 in the finale to host Taos.

East Mountain’s boys squad lost 7-1 Monday at Socorro.

East Mountain volleyball lost last Friday to Bosque 3-2 in five sets (25-16, 25-17, 14-25, 16-25, 13-15).
