Manzano High School quarterback Dakota Powell, who lives in the East Mountains, threw for 221 yards, including a 73-yard touchdown pass to fellow East Mountain resident Jack Blankenship in the Monarchs’ 33-17 road win Sept. 21 at West Mesa.

Mountainair High School’s football team improved to 4-1 with a 56-16 thrashing Sept. 21 over last year’s nemesis and defending state-champion Melrose. The Mustangs played the Magdalena Steers (3-1) Sept. 27.

Estancia High’s football team picked up a 28-12 victory Sept. 21 at Jal.

Moriarty and East Mountain high schools will both host separate fundraiser runs Sept. 29 to benefit the schools’ athletic departments.

Moriarty High’s Pinto Pride Corn Maze Run includes a 5K and a 1-mile run at McCall’s Pumpkin Patch in Moriarty. Registration starts at 7 a.m.; run starts at 8 a.m. Adults 5K $40, 1 mile $30; kids (age 4-17) 5K and 1 mile $25.

East Mountain High’s T’Wolf Trail Run includes a 5K run and a 1.5-mile walk at Vista Grande Community Complex in Sandia Park. Registration starts at 7 a.m.; run starts at 8 a.m. Adults $35; kids under age 12, $25. 220-6321.
