Estancia High’s Adam Lujan gained 459 yards rushing with four touchdowns in the Bears’ 59-7 rout last Friday at Capitan. Moises Anaya chipped in three touchdowns while Zeke Tapia added a pair of TDs on 104 yards rushing.
Estancia head coach Stewart Burnett said Lujan’s ground performance “should place him second all time in the record books for single game rushing.” The 459 total yards would put Lujan second behind former Estancia running back Cesar Quintana, who piled up 504 yards last year against Capitan.
Manzano’s football team scored a pair of touchdowns in the final 3 minutes to rally past West Mesa 21-13 last Thursday at Nusenda Community Stadium in Albuquerque. One of the TDs was a pass from Orlando Perez to Dominick Konstan with :30 left in the game.
Seven separate Pintos found the back of the net during last Saturday’s 10-0 boys soccer blowout over Gallup. The victory pushes the Pintos’ winning streak to six—matching their best in two years; Moriarty bested Del Norte 3-1 last Thursday, following a 1-0 win Sept. 15 over Manzano.
The Pintos improved their record to 8-3 surpassing their total wins last year. Moriarty hosts Hope Christian Thursday.
East Mountain’s soccer teams traveled to Hatch Valley last Thursday: the girls team won 4-0 while the boys squad lost 3-1.
Mountainair volleyball won Monday’s home match against Desert Academy, 3-2. The Lady Mustangs took two of three matches at last weekend’s Mountaintop Tournament in Cloudcroft, sweeping Animas 3-0 after beating host Cloudcroft 3-1 on Saturday; Mountainair lost 3-1 to Capitan in the tournament opener.
Mountainair football lost a shootout last Friday to visiting Dora/Elida, 86-52.
