An East Mountains land owner found a 50-pound box of dynamite on his property recently and called in the Albuquerque Police bomb squad to handle the issue.
The property owner recently bought a 25-acre parcel off of NM 217 and was digging by a tree when he discovered a large, wooden box. After moving it out of the ground, he realized it was dynamite. The box was dated “August 20, 1931,” according to a polive spokesman.
Since the crate was 40 yards inside the tree line, APD’s bomb squad, along with Albuquerque Fire & Rescue, fashioned a sled to pull it clear of the trees and into a pre-dug hole, where it was safely detonated.
