Moriarty Community Library

The summer reading program kicked off on June 1 and will end July 30. Kids and parents can pick up reading logs during regular business hours, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For every reading log that is dropped off, readers get a free ice cream cone from Shorty’s BBQ and automatically entered into a drawing for a prize. Reading logs are due by July 28.

The library also has activity bags available every other week. Each one contains two weeks’ worth of activities. The next round will be ready on June 14. Library books also have a two-week due date. The reading logs are designed after a game board. The library will provide stickers to keep track of books read. Once the game board is filled, readers can trade them in for another. Tween/Teen Among Us Night will be held every Thursday. There is an advance sign-up to access the Zoom link. Teens and tweens need to have two devices; one for Zoom and one for Among Us. Scan the QR code to sign up which is available on Facebook and in this newspaper. All in-person programs are canceled for this year due to Covid.

Edgewood Community Library

The Edgewood Community Library is challenging young readers to read at 1.5 hours a week, every week, from June 6 until July 31. Readers who complete the weekly reading challenge will get a weekly prize and their name will go into the end-of-the-week bonus prize drawing. Readers who complete the the entire challenge will automatically qualify for the grand prize drawing: a one year Family Plus membership to the ABQ BioPark. Registration began on June 6. Register with the Beanstack app to participate and track reading progress digitally or drop by the library during curbside service hours to register for offline participation and receive a reading tracker.

This reading challenge is geared toward school-age participants who reside in the East Mountain and Estancia Valley.

Summer Take & Make Kits will be available from June 6 to July 31 on Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Each week this summer, the library will be distributing free Take & Make Kits geared toward school-age children. Every kit is equipped with an activity or two, materials, and instructions. All in-person library programs are cancelled while the library remains closed to the public due to renovations.

Estancia Public Library

Kids through 5th grade can sign up to read and earn prizes Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.m to 5 p.m. until July 30.

Each child is given a reading log and stickers to keep track of books they have checked out from the library and read or been read to. When the reading log is completed they can turn it in and pick a prize for our prize cart. The library will also provide stickers to help readers track their books.

Library Lizards and Bookworm Buddies story times are full since sign up began May 17, with limited spots available. Children can get their own library card once they complete first grade and get a free pencil and bookmark when they sign up for the first time.
