A welcome break from the heat today as a backdoor cold front moves west into the Rio Grande Valley early this morning. The cold front will bring gusty winds; especially this morning and cooler temperatures. A slight increase in moisture could lead to a slight chance of an afternoon and evening thunderstorm. Widespread 90+ degree weather returns on Tuesday and stays thru the end of the week. There is a slight chance of thunderstorms each afternoon and evening as mid level moisture gets funneled north out of Mexico. With the lower levels dry most of the thunderstorm activity will have little rain, but gusty erratic winds are possible.

For the Estancia Valley and the Moriarty areas expect cooler temperatures today with a slight chance of an afternoon and evening thunderstorm. High temperatures today will be in the lower to middle 80s with overnight lows around 50 degrees. Tuesday thru Friday expect hot weather to return with a slight chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms. The thunderstorms will be mainly dry with little rain and possible gusty erratic winds. High temperatures will be in the lower to middle 90s with overnight low temperatures in the middle to upper 50s.

For the Cedar Crest, Tijeras and Sedillo areas expect cooler temperatures today with a slight chance of an afternoon and evening thunderstorm. High temperatures today will be in the middle 80s with overnight lows in the lower to middle 50s. Tuesday thru Friday expect hot weather to return with a slight chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms. The thunderstorms will be mainly dry with little rain and possible gusty erratic winds. High temperatures will be in the lower 90s with overnight low temperatures in the lower to middle 60s.

Looking past this forecast period into next weekend it looks like the monsoon could make its first appearance of the summer!
